    The Intern / Research Pass in Uganda allows individuals to temporarily enter the country for internship or research purposes. This pass is designed for interns and researchers seeking to conduct work or studies within Uganda, enabling them to gain valuable experience and contribute to various fields.

    General Information

    This pass applies to individuals who are either sponsored by a host institution in Uganda or are undertaking research. It is essential to note that this pass does not grant permission to work in any capacity outside the specified internship or research activities.

    Application Process

    Once the application is submitted, an Immigration Officer will review it. Additional information may be required during the approval process, which can be submitted electronically via the "Manage your applications" portal. The decision regarding the application will be communicated through the email provided by the applicant. If approved, an approval letter will be sent as an attachment.

    It is important to remember that a travel letter does not equate to permission to enter Uganda. Applicants from visa-prone countries will need to apply for a visa to enter Uganda. At the port of entry, it is required to present a valid travel document with a minimum validity of 6 months.

    Fees

    • Intern Pass: 700 USD (sponsored applications only, online payment subject to a 3% surcharge fee).
    • Research Pass:
      • Individual: 700 USD (online payment only, subject to a 3% surcharge fee).
      • Sponsored: 700 USD (online payment only, subject to a 3% surcharge fee).

    Required Documents

    The following documents are required for both the Intern and Research passes:

    Intern Pass (Sponsored)

    • Referral letter from the sending University/Institution/Organization.
    • Cover letter from the host institution where the internship will be conducted.
    • Admission or acceptance letter for the internship.
    • Copy of the Passport Bio Data page (valid for at least 6 months).
    • Recent passport-sized photo.
    • Current immigration status.
    • ID from the host institution.

    Research Pass

    • Individual:
      • Application letter stating the reason for the pass.
      • Cover letter from the host institution addressed to the Commissioner of Immigration Control.
      • Copy of the Passport Bio Data page (valid for at least 6 months).
      • Recent passport-sized photo.
      • Valid police clearance from the home country.
      • Curriculum Vitae.
      • Clearance letter from the National Council for Science and Technology (NCST).
      • Current immigration status.
    • Sponsored: Same as Individual but with the institution sponsoring the applicant.
