Occupation Permit: Invest, Work, or Retire in Mauritius – Requirements and Application Process
The Occupation Permit (OP) allows foreign nationals to work, invest, and reside in Mauritius. Self-Employed: Targeted at individuals who plan to establish and operate a business on their own.
Foreign nationals aged 50 or above can apply for this permit to retire in Mauritius. They must demonstrate sufficient financial resources for their stay.
Recent graduates of Mauritian tertiary institutions can apply for the Young Professional Occupation Permit, valid for up to three years, enabling them to work in sectors such as Artificial Intelligence, Biotechnology, Fintech, Robotics, Financial Services, and IT.
The Investor and Self-Employed categories of the OP, as well as the Retired Non-Citizen Residence Permit, are valid for a maximum of 10 years and are renewable. The Professional category is valid for up to three years or the duration of the contract. Dependents of OP holders can apply for residence permits.
Investor: Must generate a minimum annual turnover of MUR 15M or an aggregate turnover of MUR 45M over three years.
Professional: Must have a basic monthly salary of at least MUR 150,000 for three consecutive years.
Self-Employed: Must generate an annual business income of at least MUR 3 million for three consecutive years.
Retired Non-Citizen: Must transfer at least USD 54,000 or its equivalent for three years.
After holding an OP for at least 3 years, foreign nationals can apply for a 20-year Residence Permit if specific financial conditions are met.
