The SACU Permit is available to:
- Citizens with locally registered vehicles.
- Non-citizens with vehicles registered in Botswana.
Supporting Documents Required for a SACU Permit
To apply for a SACU Permit, applicants must submit the following documents:
- Copy of the Vehicle Registration Document (Blue Book).
- Valid Vehicle Roadworthiness Certificate.
- Valid Vehicle Permit.
- Applicable Identity Document (National Identity Card for citizens or a valid passport for non-citizens).
How to Apply for a SACU Permit
Step 1: Download and Complete the Application Form
- Download Form RTS 1 - Application for Initial Grant, Amendment, or Renewal of Road Transport Permit from the Department of Road Transport and Safety (DRTS) website or collect a copy from any DRTS office.
Step 2: Submit the Application and Supporting Documents
- Submit the completed form along with the required supporting documents to a Registration and Licensing Officer at any permit-issuing DRTS office.
Step 3: Pay the Required Fees
- Pay the relevant fees to the Registration and Licensing Officer upon submission of the documents. Once the fees are paid, the permit will be issued immediately.
Processing Time for a SACU Permit
- The SACU Permit is processed and issued immediately upon successful submission of documents and payment of fees.
Cost of a SACU Permit
The cost of the permit is based on the duration of validity:
- 1 Month: BWP 260.00
- 6 Months: BWP 520.00
- 12 Months: BWP 1,690.00
All fees are inclusive of a BWP 130.00 application fee.
