This permit, issued by the Department of Road Transport and Safety (DRTS), guarantees compliance with road safety regulations and ensures the vehicles used are roadworthy.

    Who is Eligible for an Own Account Permit?

    The Own Account Permit is available to:

    • Institutions such as churches, societies, and organizations.

    Supporting Documents Required for an Own Account Permit

    To apply for an Own Account Permit, the following documents are required:

    1. Copy of the Registration Book (or proof of financial ability if not available).
    2. Copy of a Valid Roadworthiness Certificate for the vehicle.
    3. Certified Copy of National Identity Card (Omang) for individual applicants or one director (for companies).
    4. Certificate of Incorporation & Shareholder’s Certificates (for company applicants).
    5. Vehicle Inspection Certificate (issued after the vehicle passes inspection).
    6. Business Proposal outlining the transport operations (for companies).
    7. Expired Permit and Expired Token (for renewals).

    How to Apply for an Own Account Permit

    Step 1: Download and Complete the Application Form

    • Download Form RTS 1 - Application for Initial Grant, Amendment, or Renewal of Road Transport Permit from the DRTS website or collect a copy from any DRTS office.

    Step 2: Submit the Application and Supporting Documents

    • Submit the completed form and all supporting documents to a Registration and Licensing Officer at any DRTS office.

    Step 3: Attend the Transport Advisory Board Hearing

    • First-time applicants are required to attend a Transport Advisory Board hearing where a decision will be made.

    Step 4: Vehicle Inspection

    • Approved applicants must have their vehicles inspected by Transport Inspectors.
    • If the vehicle passes, an Inspection Certificate is issued. If it fails, the applicant must resolve any issues and reapply for inspection.
